Bobs 2nd blog - it's getting better

bobblog
Hello everybody,  It's been a little while since I updated my blog, but as some of you may have heard I put my back out again last week.

As a result I wasn't able to attend the Laying up supper last Saturday which was a real disappointment, as it's always a event which I really enjoy.  In fact thinking about it, it's the first one I've missed since I joined Eyott over twenty years ago.  Thankfully Derek our Vice Commodore stepped into the breach at the last moment and hosted the Evening with his usual aplomb.  Thanks Derek it was very much appreciated.

Unfortunately it looks like sailing is going to be hold for a while until my back gets back to being 100% which hopefully won't be to long.  That said I did manage to compete in the Up River Winter series on the 2nd November with Robyn as my crew.  The first race we had absolutely no wind at all and I think it took us nearly half an hour to cross the start line.  Nevertheless once the tiniest bit a breeze filled in we managed to pull our selves up to the rest of the fleet and finish in fourth place, which all things considered wasn't to bad.

In the second race we had a really good start but then totally lost it by the windward mark by hugging the wrong side of the river.  Turning the mark second from last we did manage to pull back on the rest of fleet and three of us finished almost together with the graduate the leading boat already being up the ramp, washed, and put away.  Again on Handicap we managed a fourth which again wasn't to bad.

With the Laying up supper over it now only leaves the Christmas Social on Tuesday 16th December in South Woodham Ferrers Village Hall starting at 8pm.  Do try and come if you can as it's a good time to see all your friends before the Christmas and New Years celebrations.

You may have already heard from Les that the club is trying to sell an electric winch which is now surplus to requirements.  If anybody is interested please contact Les direct for further details.  That also reminders me.  Because of my back I'm am going to have to sell my beloved green leather Italian made lounge chair.  It breaks my heart to see it go as it's a beautiful piece but it's doesn't support my back correctly and I now need to buy a proper orthopaedic lounge chair.  One like you see in old peoples homes.  (I don't think)  If anybody is interested in buying it give me a ring and I give you further details.

Well that's it from me I hope to see you all soon
